While I have always been a creative who loves working with my hands, it has really been over the the past two years that I have settled in to my product design journey. Handwoven Bangle Box
Over the course of 5 years of living in India, I have accumulated a lot of bangles and have always longed for a unique place to store them. They carry so many memories and stories. The idea to “cane”weave plastic water bottles came over chai with a friend and was implemented over many months of trial and error. I am proud of the design choice to engrave the lines into the doors and of the original knobs. I remember fondly scouring every hardware store across Jaipur for the perfect knobs, bringing home numerous samples for this piece, only to settle on crafting them myself with furniture tacks and jewelry wire.
Hand-embossed Hosting Tray
I had first learned to emboss on scrapbooking paper with a light box, so implementing this technique on cold beverage cans required a bit of innovation. In order for the tiles to look similar when embossed by different ladies with a range of skill-level and ability, we designed our own tools to help ensure the tiles are uniform even when embossed and punched by hand. I love that the use of material (namely beer cans) is as unexpected as the embroidered detail; and with colors all chosen by creative partners, each piece is one-of-a-kind.
